I mean, unless you consider getting lost in AO3's Kirk/Bones tag for the past few weeks dropping off the face of the earth.

In fairness, I've tried to post posts and LJ's rejected them all. It's all LJ's fault really. (We ignore the fact I've barely been on Tumblr recently as well).

So, what have I missed?

Well, merry Christmas and happy new year to all of you! Thank you for the cards and gifts, you guys are awesome. I hope you had a good time.

Christmas was pretty chilled out here, a lot of playing Dishonoured (because I am fucking English) and pawing at my lovely new Bond blu-rays. New Years was much of the same, except with a This Means War drinking game (with BANOFFEE vodka, that's a thing!) and some friends over AIM.

Uh, other than that, it's been mostly work and mainlining Chris Pine and Karl Urban films like my life depends on it. There aren't a lot of good ones, are there? I mean, I loved RED anyway, Unstoppable was pretty awesome and Carriers was a nice late night surprise. Other than that, oh dear.

OH! Speaking of films, one of my plans for the new year is to get my site up and running with a bit more content. It's here and it's kind of bare right now. I need ideas. Inspire me, you fabulous bastards.

Right. Am I going to be more active on here over the coming months? Not sure yet, depends if the site will let me really. We'll see, won't we?

Because today, I finally watched Star Trek without a migraine! Hurrah!

I went to see it at the cinema, but the first half hour was spent in the cinema toilet, throwing up and the rest was spent screwing my eyes shut to avoid all the bright flashing lights. Despite that, I did still enjoy it, even if all I really remember is laughing at the redshirt's death, and Scotty.

I also tried watching it again a few months later and mid-way through, was hit with another searing blast of brain pain. So, not a great track record.

In fact, anytime I've tried to pick it up since, I've always had a twinge of pain.

So after screaming with glee over the new trailers - and seeing the 9 minute preview before The Hobbit, WHEN THE IMAX BLOG SAID MINE WASN'T GETTING IT - I figured it was time I rewatched the original reboot one.

More Star Trek XI, The Hobbit, Life of Pi and new ships...Collapse )

TVD 4x9Collapse )

I was contemplating dropping it if the mid-season finale was as horribly disappointing as the last few episodes have been, but I think I'm back on board. I'm still a bit eh about it on the whole, but I'll at least try and finish this season. We'll see where it goes as to whether I stick with it after that.

On another topic entirely, my heart goes out to those affected by the attacks in both Connecticut and China today.

James McAvoy is playing Macbeth on the London stage from February to April next year, I've just booked my ticket to see him performing on my birthday in March!

I never do anything exciting on my birthday. Ever. My sister has gone to London to see a show for the past three years, so I think it's my turn to do something a bit fun, yeah? Also, I can possibly see my lovely London ladies for birthday dinners and drinkies!

I'm actually looking forward to my birthday for a change now!

It's on Tuesday 19th February and I am super excited about it. There's also a shiny new, exciting promo for it as well.

A bit of giddy fangirl wittering...Collapse )

Because it's my birthday at the end of March and I'm not cool with this getting older business. Season three of GoT is a pretty cool late birthday present though.
Short featurette below the cut.Collapse )

On a different topic, I saw Rise of the Guardians today. I really enjoyed it. It was a sweet little film, made me smile. Loved the Easter Bunny, where do I get a cuddly version of him? I will also accept Hugh Jackman in bunny ears. I really liked Pitch as well, one of the better kids film baddies in ages. Jude Law does good menace. And oh my God, his voice...

Festive films seem to be getting better these days, Arthur Christmas last year, now this. It almost makes me like the stupid season.

Make a post (public, friends-locked, filtered... whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of ten holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV"). The important thing is to make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.

If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) can get in touch with you. Your home address is not required!

Make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ so that the holiday joy will spread.

Surf around your friends list (or friends-friends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now, here's the important part...

If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes one person's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use - or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free - do it.

You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf - to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not - it's your call. There are no guarantees with this project, and no strings attached. Just... wish, and it might come true. Give and you might receive. You'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.

Wishlist below the cut. I only have five. :)Collapse )

And if you've got one, do feel free to link me and I'll see what I can do.

For anything which you need my address for, just message me and I'll send it to you.
